Sandvik Coromant is upgrading its range of turning inserts for machining ISO-P steels. The tooling specialist has launched two carbide grades that are designed for external and internal machining of low-alloyed and unalloyed steels.

The related castings grades in both EN 10283 and BS 3100 are included in the 16Cr25N, S12550, TP446-1/TP446-2, S44600, 1.4762, 2C52/2C48(Sandvik).

Grades GC4330 and GC4340 are CVD grades optimized for steel milling, offering substantially increased tool life and improved process security. GC4330 is First choice for roughing to semi-finish face milling, while GC4340 is First choice for rough shoulder milling and groove milling . The new-generation steel turning insert grades GC4425 and GC4415 deliver improved performance in every way. Coated with second-generation Inveio® technology, they have a broad range of applications and are recommended for continuous and interrupted cuts. The latest CVD- and PVD-coated carbide grades for all stainless steel operations.

6C27, a common knife steel grade with good corrosion resistance and low hardness, mainly used in applications where the need for wear resistance is low. 7C27Mo2, generally the same properties as Sandvik 6C27, but with improved corrosion resistance. 12C27, a grade with high hardness and good wear resistance. The development of a steel milling grade designed to give the customer a long insert tool life and stable production led to the award of the “Wilhelm Haglund Medal to the Product Developer of the Year” in 2018 to Karin Andersson, Björn Ericsson, Emmanuelle Göthelid and Marie Pettersson from Sandvik Coromant. The medal was presented in conjunction with Sandvik’s 2018 Annual General Meeting. Sandvik's standard range of Osprey® ferritic stainless steel metal powder includes grades of ASTM 430 and 434 types for use in, for example, metal injection moulding (MIM), cold spray and additive manufacturing (rapid prototyping). Ovako 281T is a micro alloyed steel that is suitable for quench and tempering and possess a high tensile strength.
